The long way around

This past weekend I worked a bit more on disassembly. According to the restoration handbook (which is extremely annoying when it doesn’t apply to my particular model), the fenders are supposed to come off at this stage. However, it told me how to find some elusive fastener hidden inside the footwells. I removed the dashpad, instrument cluster, clock surround, and footwell vent covers trying to find it, and was about to start on the lower dash before my dad realized something was wrong and stopped me. As it turned out, our Holy Grail of Fender Removal didn’t exist.

While at the garage, we also got some manual filing done, and finally finished organizing the almighty Montezuma. Tomorrow, the doors and hood come off, and my dad’s friend might stop by to help out with decorating the garage as a thank you for spending a few hours with him to get some wheel dollies to Fremont.
